Furnaces Batch Chargers
Glass Service has developed advanced batch chargers designed for the modern electric furnaces. We offer specific types of batch chargers based on furnace geometry:
– XY TYPE with a bi-axial movement for square or rectangular furnaces
– RADIAL TYPE with a rotational movement for different geometries such as hexagonal or dodecanogal section
The machines are characterized by the following key features:
- Energy savings through uniform batch feeding across the entire furnace surface.
- Applicability to electric furnaces with a capacity from 4 to 250 tons/day.
- Adjustable charging capacity, optimized via a glass level measuring system, with belt speed modulation.
- Advanced safety system with lasers and PLC safety level, for maximum personnel protection.
- Boom position and translation measurement via a measuring laser.
- Manual maneuvers and movement in case of a blackout, with rapid motor disengagement via pneumatic connection.
- Batch charging hopper weighed with load cells for advanced control of the furnace feed flow
X-Y Type
Batch Charger
The machine consists of the following parts:
- A main metallic structure moving on the X axis by rails
- An automatic motorized boom sliding on the Y axis
- A triple layer belt for the trasportation of raw material
- A pyramid hopper laid on the main structure to dose the raw material
This type of batch charger is characterized by an innovative motors disengagement system in order allow the manual handling by the operator during maintenance:

The machine consists of the following parts:
- A main metallic structure characterized by a rotational oscillating movement
- An automatic motorized boom
- A triple layer belt for the trasportation of raw material
Efficient mobility for a perfect coverage
of the surface
Both machines typologies are characterized by a high level of mobility managed and controlled by PLC. This feature makes sure the batch chargers can distribute the raw material homogeneously in any kind of surface, both rectangular or hexagonal.

Our Belt Cold Top Batch Charger system has been specifically designed to meet the needs of electric furnaces, where the distribution of batch material across the melting surface directly influences energy efficiency and the quality of the glass produced.
Glass Service developed a special software that divides the furnace surface into distinct zones, adjusting in real-time the quantity of batch to be deposited in each area. This dynamic management prevents overloading or uncovered zones, optimizing the melting process in different furnace areas, particularly near electrodes where melting capacity is greatest.
Dymanic Safety
Three laser scanners create an intelligent protection area that adapts to the arm’s position. When the system is retracted for maintenance, the safety radius reduces, allowing operators better access to the furnace without compromising protection. A solution that combines maximum safety with operational practicality.
The traversing frame allows also quick machine removal for maintenance, ensuring operational efficiency and minimal downtime. This technology represents our answer to the needs of modern glass production, where energy efficiency, quality, and sustainability are essential requirements.
